Meet the Concertmaster

Kerren Berz Biography

This season marks Kerren Berz's 10th season as Concertmaster of the Columbus Symphony. She received degrees from Florida State University and the University of Tennessee, with additional studies at Boston University. She credits her public school music program with the giving her the opportunity to study the violin.

Ms. Berz is also a member of the Nashville Chamber Orchestra, performing and recording "music without boundaries," including a critically acclaimed recording of the music of Aaron Copland.  She has performed and toured with the Atlanta Symphony and played with orchestras in Colorado, New York, and throughout the Southeast.

As an arranger/performer in the pop music industry, Ms. Berz's work can be found on albums by Outkast, Destiny's Child, Pink, and Sinead O'Connor, among others. Her newest collaboration is with Cartel, released last summer. She is a former governor of the Recording Academy and has served on nominating committees for the annual Grammy Awards.

Ms. Berz is also Director of Strings at The Galloway School. Her high school ensemble performed in China last spring as part of a cultural exchange program. For past two summers, she has served as strings instructor in the CSO's collaboration with the Urban League Summer Tutorials.
